Liability Protection for the Convenience Industry
The convenience and fuel retailing industry is on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis in every community across the United States. We provide fuel, food, beverages, over-the-counter medication, cleaning supplies, and other critical necessities essential to get through this difficult time. Our businesses are going to great lengths to clean and sanitize our stores in order to protect our employees and customers.

However, we fear that our industry faces a growing threat of unfounded lawsuits simply because we are staying open. We know that some individuals looking to take advantage of this crisis will file civil suits alleging that COVID-19 was contracted on our premises.

For this reason, one of NACS’ top legislative priorities is advocating for federal legislation that will protect the convenience store industry and other essential businesses from unfounded lawsuits. We are bearing the weight of this crisis and we cannot afford the high cost of unfounded litigation.

Your response to this call to action is vital – we need your help to ask Congress to provide liability protection for businesses like yours that have been designated as essential. Please reach out to your Members of Congress TODAY and share this message with your colleagues.
