Urge your state legislators to support music and arts education
As states continue to address educational priorities prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic and continued recovery, policymakers must be reminded of all students’ right to a well-rounded education that includes music and the arts. Lost instructional time, remedial education, absenteeism, and teacher shortages all contribute to the most profound challenge facing public education in our lifetime. We believe that arts education is essential   for the wellbeing of students and educators and their continued success in in-person learning environments. Still, while state education budgets in 2022 have benefited substantially from an unprecedented infusion of American Rescue Plan dollars, there is no guarantee or obligation for them to maintain, rebuild, or grow arts programs in the 2022-2023 school year and beyond.

We invite you to reach out to your state legislators today, using the templated letter below, and urge them to voice their support for music and arts programs in the coming school year. Your letter will be stronger if you include stories about the power of music and arts education and how those programs have been impacted by the pandemic in your own schools and community.
