This year NAfME and music educators from across the country celebrate our 38th annual Music In Our Schools Month. MIOSM is a national celebration of music education and serves as a time to raise awareness of the importance of all children having access to a quality music education. During March, music educators use MIOSM as a platform to bring the attention of students, families, local community members, and state legislatures' attention to their school's music program and the benefits that music provides to students of all ages.
A key element of MIOSM advocacy is a signed proclamation from school boards or state governors affirming the importance of music education in that community. This year, in addition to the proclamations being signed by local officials across the country, there are several pieces of legislation being introduced in Congress supporting music education and the national recognition of MIOSM.
Help bring national attention to MIOSM and the importance of students having access to a quality music education by reaching out to your representatives in Congress and urging them to support the following bills:
Music In Our Schools Month Resolution
Introduced by Representative Nydia Velazquez (NY-07) and Senator Cory Booker (NJ)
H.Res. 119 "Expressing Support for the Designation of March 2023 as Music In Our Schools Month"
S.Res. 54 "Expressing Support for the Designation of March 2023 as Music In Our Schools Month"
