Those suffering from substance use disorder need treatment, but courts disrupt the treatment process instead when sending folks back to jail for a positive test. Currently, those suffering from substance use disorder who are on probation and following the conditions of their probation can go to jail for relapsing, which is a part of recovery. This bill would change the existing statute and allow those following their probation conditions and actively seeking treatment for substance use disorder to continue to do so, even if they relapse. Fact Sheet (from last session).
