- Slash $698 billion from Medicaid—endangering healthcare access for low-income families, older adults, and people with disabilities
- Cut $535 billion from Medicare through automatic PAYGO provisions—jeopardizing care for seniors and people with chronic health conditions
- Gut $267 billion from SNAP (food assistance)—increasing food insecurity across the country
- Roll back the Child Tax Credit for children without two parents who have Social Security numbers—disproportionately harming immigrant families
- Increase student loan repayment burdens, and
- Weaken accountability by making it harder for courts to enforce contempt against federal officials
A new analysis from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) shows that this plan would add $3.8 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade - largely due to major tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, particularly the extension of provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
Meanwhile, the bill boosts funding for defense, immigration enforcement, and homeland security - while gutting critical lifelines that support children, families, older adults, and marginalized communities.
We urge the Senate to reject this reckless budget. Social workers, advocates, and communities across the country are calling on our elected officials to protect - not punish - the people we serve.
We urge you to contact your U.S. Senators TODAY and demand they oppose these proposed federal Medicaid cuts.
We cannot afford to abandon Michigan families, health providers, or the social work workforce.
