URGENT: Contact Your Representatives NOW to Protect Social Work Education
The Department of Education has proposed a new definition of "professional degree" that would exclude master's and doctoral programs in social work and many other professions. This change could have serious implications for our field and the students who are training to serve our communities.

Why this matters: Social work education at ALL levels is rigorous, specialized, and absolutely professional. Whether BSW, MSW, or DSW/PhD, our programs prepare practitioners to address complex human needs, navigate ethical dilemmas, and advocate for vulnerable populations. While this particular reclassification targets graduate-level degrees, it threatens the professional standing of our entire field. This designation isn't just semantics. It affects funding, loan programs, and the recognition our profession deserves.

Take action NOW and urge your federal elected officials to pressure the Department of Education to stop this harmful reclassification. Your message will be sent directly to your legislators.

It takes less than 2 minutes, and your voice matters. When our elected officials hear from constituents like you, they listen.

Amplify your impact on social media: After you send your message, help us spread the word! Share our "Social Work is Professional" graphic and tell your story. What did it take for you to become a social worker? The coursework, the field placements, the clinical supervision, the ongoing professional development? Share your journey and show the world why social work IS a professional degree.

What happens next: NASW Nevada and NASW will also be submitting formal public comments when the comment period opens. We'll share information on how you can submit your own comments too.

Bottom line: Social work degrees at every level are professional degrees, and we won't let that change without a fight.

Together, our collective voice is powerful.
