The Environmental Protection Agency is ready to finalize overdue Renewable Fuel Standards for 2021 and 2022. Administrator Michael S. Regan has committed to use the 2022 volumes as a jumping off point for future volumes. However, the agency remains behind schedule in setting RFS rules for 2023 and beyond -- the agency should have set all 2023 RFS volumes at the end of November 2021 and should propose 2024 volumes in summer 2022.

The agency's reset of 2020 volumes and failure to account for small refinery exemptions is troubling. EPA will still face years of litigation over its proposal to deny pending exemptions. It cannot guarantee that the volumes it sets today will be honored. A strong signal of growth for the future is needed to give the agricultural economy assurance.

Transportation fuel demand is soaring. EPA must get the RFS back on track to ensure an essential supply of homegrown fuels.

Write your member of Congress. Let them know that Americans need cleaner, better fuels.  Ask them to encourage EPA to get the program back on track and raise required volumes of biodiesel and renewable diesel for 2023 and beyond.
