Medicare Coverage of Counselors
NBCC needs your assistance in securing Medicare coverage for mental health counselors. The Senate and House of Representatives have introduced bills (S. 1879 and H.R. 3032) to provide this recognition.  We need counselors to contact your legislators to get them to cosponsor this legislation.

Medicare coverage of mental health counselors has been one of NBCC's top legislative priorities for many years. Providing Medicare recognition to mental health counselors will increase access to addiction and mental health services, particularly in rural and underserved areas.  It will also ensure counselors are eligible to participate in new integrated care settings and alternative payment models.

We urge you to call your Senators and Representatives immediately and request that they cosponsor these bills. The more contacts with legislators that we can generate, the greater likelihood that we can finally get this bill passed.

Please share any response you receive from your congressional offices with govtaffairs@nbcc.org.

You can use the phone script provided, but feel free to personalize the call by talking about your education or your expeierences with having to turn away Medicare clients.

Thank you for your support!
