Virginia SB 802/HB 1433 - Counseling Compact
Virginia legislators need to hear from you as they are still considering Counseling Compact bills (SB 802/HB 1433)! The legislative session ends on Feb. 11, so time is running out. The bills have now passed in the chambers where they were introduced and have crossed into the opposite chamber!  Legislators need to hear from stakeholders to ensure the bills keep moving forward!

Contact your Senators and ask them to support HB 1433!

Contact your House Reps and ask them to support SB 802!

Please advocate for increased access to mental health services by sharing with your legislators that as of December 2022, 17 states (Compact Map) have passed legislation to join the compact. The first compact commission meeting was held on October 25-26, 2022. You can find more information, including up-coming meeting dates, here if you would like to attend any commission or committee meeting. All commission meetings are open to the public.

The Counseling Compact will:

  • expand the mobility of the counseling workforce
  • enable counselors to serve clients who are increasingly engaged in multi-state employment and education
  • facilitate efficient licensure processes for military-connected families
  • ensure that proper regulatory processes necessary for the protection of the public are maintained and completed

The counseling compact is more important now than ever before! The global pandemic has dramatically expanded the need for telehealth services. Due to significant shifts in client mobility, including opportunities for remote work and education, cross-state movement and engagement has increased. This further highlights the need for counselors to have the privilege to practice in multiple states and Virginia's citizens will be well-served by enacting SB 802/HB 1433.

Visit the Virginia Legislature for up-to-date bill information. We urge you to contact your legislators to request support of this bill.
