Last week, the Massachusetts House of Representatives passed, H5595, which allows for any and all abortions 24 weeks or later if approved by a doctor (i.e. abortionist). It also removes the requirement that these late abortions be performed in a hospital. The vote was 119-33. Massachusetts current law allows abortions after 24 weeks to preserve the life or health of the mother, in cases of lethal fetal anomaly or diagnosis, or in cases of grave fetal diagnosis incompatible with life outside the womb.
The bill now moves to the Senate. The Senate Ways and Means Committee is now considering the senate version of the bill, S1563. Massachusetts citizens are urged to take action NOW. Please contact your Massachusetts State Senator and urge your Senator to oppose S1563 and any legislation that would remove Massachusetts’ current limits on abortions 24 weeks or later.
