Many college students go without the support they need, and few graduate with a college degree. It’s time we do something about that.
The Respond, Innovate, Succeed, and Empower (RISE) Act was reintroduced on July 29th, 2021 in both the Senate by Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Dr. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Senator Todd Young (R-IN), and Shelley Capito (R-WV) and in the House of Representatives by Representatives Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA), and Kim Schrier (D-WA). The RISE Act amends the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) to ensure that students with disabilities thrive in college. But the bill needs your support to become law.
The RISE Act will help students with learning and attention issues transition to college and succeed by:
- Requiring colleges accept a student’s IEP, 504 plan, or prior evaluation as sufficient proof of their disability when seeking accommodations
- Making information about disability services in college more accessible for families and students.
- Supporting a technical assistance center for college faculty to learn more about the needs of students with disabilities.
