All of us at the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) are acutely aware of how important well-managed, sustainable and accessible fisheries are to the bottom line of many, many companies in our industry. NMMA and our sportfishing partners are working hard to pass legislation in the United States Senate that will ensure long-term conservation and sustainable fisheries while improving access to these fisheries by saltwater anglers.
The legislation we're working to pass is the Modernizing Recreational Fisheries Management Act, S. 1520, introduced by Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL). The bi-partisan "Modern Fish" bill as we are calling it, is the product of several years of work. If passed, it will help the bottom line of businesses in the recreational boating industry while mandating long-term conservation for our nation's marine resources.
Given the support we've secured among key members of Congress, the bill has been well received since its introduction in July. To date, we have 11 bipartisan co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle and from across the country.
While we have excellent momentum, we need your help making sure we maintain this momentum. I am asking you to send a letter to your Senator in support of S. 1520.
This is a jobs issue for our industry! Please help us help ensure the continued future prosperity of recreational fishing and boating.
