Small Business Needs a 1-Year Extension for SBIR/STTR
The Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs have officially lapsed.  While the U.S.  House of Representatives has passed a clean, bipartisan, 1-year extension (HR 5100) to continue the programs while all parties continue to negotiate on a long-term reauthorization, the Senate has been unable to pass it thus far due to objections from Senate Small Business Committee Chair Joni Ernst (R-IA), who insists on major changes to the program be included in any extension.

While there are major disagreements between Republicans and Democrats over what changes should be made to the programs, innovative American small businesses shouldn't be punished by having their funding and research project disrupted while Congress works toward a compromise agreement.  Both Republicans and Democrats in the House supported this extension, and it is essential that the Senate comes together and adopt HR 5100 to give negotiators the time they need to come together on a bill.

Please take a few moments TODAY to urge your Senators to support HR 5100 and make sure that your Representatives continue to support the bill to make sure that high-tech small businesses are not excluded from government-funded R&D work while Congress continues to negotiate over legislation.
