NAR presentation touches on millennial impacts, other factors in current housing market
It's certainly no secret in the real estate community that that millennial generation is impacting the housing market. Jessica Lautz is NAR's Managing Director of Survey Research and Communication. Her presentation "Avocado Toast for One, Please" poked fun at the premise many millennials are spending $20 for avocado toast rather than saving for a home. Lautz presented to a group of nearly 400 at an NAR Members Edge event, which was the highlight of programming at the Region XI REALTOR Conference in Albuquerque, NM April 11-13.

Lautz's presentation shared plenty of insights into the current home buying trends of buyers of all ages. Some of the key points: minority homebuyers are growing; millennial homebuyers now outnumber baby boomers, the marriage rate among homebuyers is falling and homebuyers are living longer.   Local contingent promotes Nevada at MIPIM conference

Nevada REALTORS Global Business Committee member Diane Brown shares insights from annual conference
The MIPIM conference was held in Cannes, France March 13-16 2018 at the Palais Des Festivals. The annual event is aimed at bringing together the international real estate community with investors, developers and industry leaders for networking, learning and business.

A handful of Silver State REALTORS® served as representatives, promoting Nevada in the National Association of REALTORS® Pavilion. Some Nevada members arrived in France a few days early to adjust to the time zone change. Tamara set up a property tour with Kirkor Ajderhanyan (owner of Promenade International Real Estate in Nice, France and 2017 International President of FIABCI) for an educational experience on the region. Kirkor and his team embraced our contingent as family while we learned about Nice & viewed several high-end waterfront properties, which we would've all loved to have called our own.   Realtor.com: What's Holding Back New Home Construction? There's No One to Build 'em!

In this blazing-hot housing market of severe home shortages and rapidly rising prices, many buyers around the country have found themselves left shivering in the cold. But while builders would love to swoop in, construct a bunch of homes, and save the day (while making bucketloads of cash), they can't. They simply don't have the manpower.

Construction workers have become an increasingly rare and precious commodity in today's housing market. The national labor shortage is dramatically slowing down builders-many of whom already have their hands full with remodeling homes for baby boomers planning to age in place, and rebuilding thousands of homes ravaged by last year's hurricanes and wildfires. Combined with overall rising construction costs, it means an influx of new homes to ease the housing shortage and tame runaway prices isn't coming anytime soon.
