VAREP helping vets in Silver State
Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP), is a non-profit housing counseling organization dedicated to increasing sustainable homeownership, financial-literacy education, VA loan awareness, and economic opportunity for the active-military and veteran communities.

VAREP has active chapters in both southern and northern Nevada. In addition to helping active military and veterans with housing issues, both chapters have even given away mortgage-free homes to vets in need.
The most recent instance of this help came in early May when the southern Nevada chapter, in partnership with Bank of America, raised funds to pay for a home and give it to Army Specialist Cody Katcher in honor of his military service. Katcher joined the Army in 2010 and was trained as an Ammunition Specialist. After coming home from Afghanistan, he was medically evaluated and given an honorable discharge in June 2014.

Katcher had a hard time integrating back to civilian life. His wife and daughter witnessed the night terrors and encouraged him to seek help with the VA. In addition to physical injures, he was diagnosed with PTSD, depression, and chronic pain. Katcher and his family had been moving from apartment to apartment and now have the opportunity to enjoy permanent housing. The stability reduces stress and helps Katcher focus on healing.

VAREP's northern Nevada chapter donated a Reno home to U.S. Army Sergeant Leif Apag in March 2017.
