President's Message: A few Insights from Inman conference

By Keith Lynam, 2019 Nevada REALTORS® President
People seem to always be looking for the BIG announcements at events like an Inman conference, the BIG announcement this year seemed to be -- no BIG announcement! And that's exactly why it's important to attend these conferences!

Along with Nevada REALTORS® CEO Teresa McKee, I met with one of our vendors that could turn into a "BIG" announcement for our association! We are one of the first two REALTOR® associations turning to today's pioneering technologies through in-home appliances like Amazon's Alexa and Google Home for communicating directly with our members.

Don't panic, we won't be eavesdropping, and this is a "pull" communication from your Association. We are extremely excited about this new product as we continually look for ways to better communicate with our members. Click here to continue reading.

  LEGAL: Working with a handyman

ONE-MINUTE ANALYSIS*
With the 2019 Legislative session underway Nevada REALTORS® wanted to revisit an issue our staff and lobbyists worked on diligently during the 2013 session.  Whether you are an agent with a listing who agrees to get a house looking spiffy prior to showing, or a property manager clearing out a house after vacancy by a tenant, you may have used a handyman to perform repairs to the structure or landscaping.  This article should act as a refresher for those seasoned agents and may be a great tool for those newer agents when thinking about scheduling work. Please click here and read all the key details on using a handyman.

We will also republish the "OMA of the Contractors Board Issue" in the coming weeks as a refresher for those of you real estate licensees that arrange for contracting work (to a limited extent) without a general contractor's license. And, as with all work you do on the transaction file ... keep records of the handyman work. It protects you, the client and your company.

Revealed! These are America's least affordable housing markets

Carson City makes the Realtor.com list

In the words of President Donald Trump, the nation's economy is booming. After clawing our way out of a terrible recession, Americans are finally working and getting raises again. But please, hold the applause. Finding a job these days is the easy part. But scoring one that pays enough to cover the monthly rent or mortgage bill with enough left over for everything else is a big challenge for many folks. And it's getting worse.

Home list prices have jumped 41.7% over the past decade, while median incomes have climbed just 23.8% during the same period. That's resulted in plenty of places across the nation becoming unaffordable for the folks who have long lived there. Click here to read the full article.
