A message to all Nevada REALTORS®

From 2020 NVR President Chris Bishop

As all Americans know, we are now facing a state and national emergency stemming from the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). This worldwide pandemic is creating enormous challenges for us all and is requiring us to make extraordinary sacrifices and changes to our everyday lives.

For members of Nevada REALTORS®, these challenges include changing the way we work with our clients, homeowners, renters and each other.

We recognize that these unprecedented and trying times are already creating hardships for our members, for Nevadans who rent their homes and for those who own these homes, pay mortgages and rely on rental income from these properties to earn a living.

For our members who own or manage rental properties, please keep in mind that our fellow Nevadans are being especially hard-hit by this public health and economic crisis. People are already dealing with layoffs, reduced work hours and wages and shuttered businesses. We encourage you to do everything possible to treat your clients, tenants and others with compassion and to do everything in your power to work with everyone involved. This may include working with property owners, banks and others to, whenever possible, encourage them to waive late fees and allow renters to remain in their homes without enforcing eviction policies during this crisis.

Our association is working with the Nevada Bankers Association and has been assured that the NBA members throughout the state are ready to work with their customers on a case-by-case basis to help them through this crisis. We are encouraging NVR members, property managers and the property owners they represent to check with banks for assistance programs being detailed on their websites, to ask their bankers about such programs and to share any personal stresses and challenges they or their tenants may be encountering.

This is obviously a rapidly evolving situation. With your help and by working together, we can all get through this. Please contact our association at (775) 829-5911 or visit our website at www.NevadaRealtors.org for more information.
