NAR: Housing Equality, Commercial Recovery Are Top Priorities

With racial equity at the forefront of American consciousness, the National Association of REALTORS® will focus the bulk of its policy priorities this year on improving equal access to housing, association leaders said last week during NAR 360, a Facebook Live event serving as the unofficial kickoff of the virtual 2021 REALTORS® Legislative Meetings.

Earlier this year, NAR put its efforts into securing favorable real estate provisions in the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, a new round of COVID-19 relief legislation. Now the association is turning its attention to closing the widening racial homeownership gap and broadening fair housing protections for the LGBTQ+ community, among other priorities.

REALTORS® Legislative Meetings kicked off today

Want to get up to speed on the ways the National Association of REALTORS® is working to improve access to homeownership, protect private property rights, and build strong communities? The virtual REALTORS® Legislative Meetings, starting today, is the place to be.

The meetings run through May 14, and members can sign up for free to attend governance meetings and education sessions at legislative.realtor. The event advances priority issues for the real estate industry and the livelihoods of REALTORS®. This year's meetings will include a special focus on ways to reduce the racial homeownership gap and ensure equitable housing opportunities, as well as solutions for boosting lagging housing inventory.

Last year, more than 28,000 NAR members and other participants registered for the first-ever virtual REALTORS® Legislative Meetings, a dramatic increase from the 9,000 who typically attend the in-person May meetings in Washington, D.C.
