Bend City Councilors are moving forward with plans to tax natural gas hookups in new homes, forcing residents onto the electric grid. Despite the fact natural gas is an affordable, reliable source of energy that helps power the electric grid, City Councilors don’t want you to have direct access to natural gas hookups.

Bend residents have sent over 1,000 messages urging the City Council not to move forward with this plan, but the majority are planning to do so anyway. Councilors will be holding the first reading of this new tax proposal and vote on June 3rd and the second reading and vote on June 17th, with an implementation date anticipated for April 2027.
