We have just learned from our allies in Washington that the bipartisan infrastructure bill contains language that would create a loophole in the more than 50-year-old law preventing commercial activity at non-toll interstate highway rest areas. This means electric vehicle chargers could be installed at those rest areas.
NYACS opposes this language because it would create monopoly businesses at rest stops and depress private sector investment in EV chargers. It would undermine convenience stores located off interstate exits while hurting local communities and tax revenues. It also would mean fewer new EV chargers because of the message it will send to private businesses.
Please take one minute RIGHT NOW to send Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand the pre-loaded email message asking them to remove this appropriations language out of the infrastructure bill in order to protect private investment in the EV charging sector. And circulate this alert to others in your company and your sphere of influence encouraging them to do the same. Thank you.
