Tell Congress to Demand Restoration of SAMHSA Grant Cuts!

The federal administration has abruptly canceled hundreds of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) grants nationwide, cutting off funding that supports lifesaving mental health, substance use, overdose prevention, peer support, crisis response, and homelessness services. These cuts were issued with no warning and are effective immediately.

Providers across the country are reporting that programs may be forced to shut down overnight, staff may be laid off, and people relying on these services could be left without support. Examples of some of these program on a state-by-state basis can be found here.

This is happening at a time when communities are already facing rising need, workforce shortages, and threats to Medicaid and other safety net programs.

This funding supports front-line services that save lives. Ending these grants will not reduce need. It will increase overdoses, crises, homelessness, and preventable deaths.

TAKE ACTION NOW

We are urging recovering people, their families, community based agencies, faith leaders and other community partners to contact their Members of Congress immediately and demand action.

When you reach out, ask your Representative and Senators to:

  • Demand that the federal administration reverse the cancellations of SAMHSA grant awards
  • Press the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to immediately restore funding for affected mental health and substance use programs

Congress must act immediately to protect the mental health and substance use safety net and ensure that awarded federal funds are delivered as promised!
