On March 25, ovarian cancer advocates from all over the country will be on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for OCRA's Spring Advocacy Day. The timing of their visits couldn't be more critical. Congress just approved a funding resolution for the remainder of the 2025 fiscal year that makes major cuts to research funding. The Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) was
cut by 67%, from $45M to $15M, despite a record of successful management and important discoveries. A cut of this magnitude threatens existing research, jeopardizes a key program for new investigators, and will likely lead to staff cuts and lab closings.
But Congress can do something, right now, to restore this funding. OCRA advocates will be asking them to do that, along with renewing their commitment to gynecologic cancer research and education funding in the new fiscal year. We will also be urging them to pass legislation to allow Medicare to cover multi-cancer early detection tests when they gain FDA approval.
If you can't be with us in person, please take action here to let Congress know that we need them to act now to ensure that cancer patients around the country aren't left behind.
