The bipartisan Clinical Trial Modernization Act has been reintroduced in Congress, and OCRA is urging lawmakers to support this important legislation.

The bill would help make clinical trials more accessible by:

• Reducing financial barriers by allowing sponsors to help cover travel, lodging, childcare, and out-of-pocket medical expenses such as copays and coinsurance.
• Expanding remote participation through the use of digital health technologies and remote monitoring tools.
• Increasing outreach and education to help connect underrepresented communities with clinical trial opportunities.
• Protecting patients from financial harm by ensuring assistance provided to support participation does not jeopardize eligibility for Medicaid and other safety-net programs.

Most gynecological cancer care is delivered in community settings, and many patients must travel long distances to access clinical trials. The costs associated with participation can place promising treatments out of reach for patients and families already facing the burden of a cancer diagnosis.

By removing unnecessary barriers, the Clinical Trial Modernization Act will help ensure that where a person lives or how much they earn does not determine whether they can participate in potentially life-saving research.
