Background:

Earlier this year, Congress passed legislation, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (Public Law No: 119-21), that was signed into law by the President. A provision in the law created student loan limits for masters’ and doctoral nursing programs, which will have significant impacts on the future nursing workforce. The rulemaking process has begun, and the release of the proposed rule is imminent.

As a nurse, your voice is powerful. Contacting your federal lawmakers in the House and Senate is a critical step in protecting future educational opportunities for nurses and bolstering the nursing workforce. Please contact your members of Congress and urge them to reach out to the Department of Education, requesting that nursing programs be added to the definition of a “professional degree”.
