Tell Congress to Pass the Tomorrow’s Workforce Act!
ASCP, together with more than 900 organizations that are part of the Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition, is working to get Congress to approve the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act. The legislation would allow individuals to use their 529 funds to cover the costs of completing an accredited laboratory training program, seeking professional certification, and paying for test preparation courses and related materials. The measure was recently reintroduced in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

The author of the Tomorrow’s Workforce Act, Representative Rob Wittman (R-VA), said when he introduced the legislation, “Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)…programs are essential to the future development of our nation…We have a responsibility to prepare students for the demands of our 21st century workforce and economy, and we must do everything we can to expand access to resources to afford post-secondary education and career training.” ASCP agrees wholeheartedly. The workforce shortages impacting the laboratory is a vexing problem that needs help from federal policymakers right away. As a result, we are asking all of our members and their colleagues to urge Congress to approve this important workforce development bill now.
