We all have patients whose care has been delayed because of prior authorization decisions from insurance plans.  But now physicians have a chance to make changes in prior authorization practices through legislation being introduced in the state House of Representatives.  Rep. Steven Mentzer, Vice Chairman of the House Insurance Committee has introduced a bill, HB 1194 to reform prior authorization processes, improve response times, increase transparency and standardize the prior authorization process.  In the Senate, Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill has offered SB 920 to do the same.

We need your help today to help get your House member's support for HB 1194 and your Senator's support for SB 920.  The PA Chapter of the American College of Physicians and our coalition partners are looking for patients to share their story and continue building support for this legislation. Here are two ways you can help:

  • Contact your House and Senate member through the Voter Voice link and ask him/her to co-sponsor prior authorization legisltion.
  • Add your personal experiences in the letter.
  • Submit a letter of support to your local paper.  If you need assistance, contact PA-ACP via
We have commitments from House leaders to consider prior authorization this session, and this is a real opportunity to make something positive happen.  Click the link above and urge your House member to help!
