Amnesty International’s “Gaza Hunger Games” report details how Israel – and the U.S.-backed aid system, the Global Humanitarian Fund (GHF) – has weaponized starvation, turning food distribution into “dystopian killing fields” where Palestinians risk being shot while simply trying to survive. In recent weeks, dozens of Palestinians — including children — have been killed daily while waiting in food lines or trying to collect water, as Israeli forces opened fire on crowds gathered for humanitarian aid. More than 110 children are hospitalized daily with acute malnutrition. Fuel shortages — the result of Israel’s blockade and attacks — have shut down hospitals, water systems, and sanitation services, deepening a crisis made even more deadly by continuous bombing.
More than 170 humanitarian organizations recently issued a letter condemning the Global Humanitarian Fun system, warning that it is pushing families further into starvation and exposing civilians to deadly risks as they seek aid.
A Global Call for Accountability
In this urgent moment, the World Council of Churches (WCC) has called on churches and people of faith to stand against Israel’s system of apartheid, occupation, and impunity — urging bold action, including sanctions and an end to military cooperation that enables Israel’s ongoing assault on Palestinian life and dignity.
Meanwhile, the UN report, “From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide,” exposes how corporate profiteering sustains Israel’s violence, occupation, and forced displacement of Palestinians. This global call urges us to:
- Expose corporations profiting from Israel’s occupation and assault on Gaza.
- Make faithful purchasing decisions that reject complicity in human rights abuses.
- Advocate for ethical government procurement that refuses to fund apartheid, occupation, or genocide.
What Does Our Nation Value?
As this humanitarian crisis deepens, Congress has passed the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” slashing critical programs for children and families — cutting funding for health care, food assistance, childcare, and education that millions rely on to survive, as well as cutting USAID programs that support development abroad. At the same time, the US approved over $500 million in weapons sales to Israel, just before PM Netanyahu’s visit.
Protesting these actions in Congress, Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s, captured this stark moral contradiction: “We’re denying health insurance to kids in the US so we can buy weapons to kill kids in Gaza.”
Call Congress to stop funding this war. End all military aid and weapons sales to Israel that fuel the killing of civilians. Invest instead in life-giving programs for children and families here at home and abroad.
A Word of Encouragement
In a time when hope feels thin and change seems slow, we return to the wisdom of scripture:
“So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
Even when the impact isn’t immediately visible, faith calls us to persevere — to sow seeds of justice, dignity, and peace.
Contact your Members of Congress today. Tell them: Stop killing children. Cease military aid to Israel. Choose life. Choose justice.
