Last year, the South Carolina House of Representatives voted to end dismemberment abortions in South Carolina by a vote of 89-17. Earlier this month, the Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee passed the dismemberment abortion ban along to the full committee. Now it's up to the full Senate Medical Affairs Committee to get this pro-life piece of legislation to the floor of the South Carolina Senate.
On March 1st, the Senate Medical Affairs Committee will discuss the dismemberment abortion ban (H.3548). This bill, sponsored by Rep. Lin Bennett, would ban a procedure often called a "d and e" abortion. The description of the procedure in the bill is as follows: an abortion that would "dismember a living unborn child and extract him or her one piece at a time from the uterus through use of clamps, grasping forceps, tongs, scissors or similar instruments that, through the convergence of two rigid levers, slice, crush, and/or grasp a portion of the unborn child's body to cut or rip it off."
We must stop this gruesome procedure from being performed in South Carolina.
Your senator sits on this Committee, and we need YOU to ask him/her to support the current bill WITHOUT amendments.
