The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit for employers who hire individuals who face barriers to employment, such as people with disabilities and qualified veterans. WOTC rates have not increased since the program was created 27 years ago. WOTC opens doors for individuals who have faced barriers to employment by incentivizing employers to consider candidates that they may have otherwise overlooked. Increasing the rates for WOTC is likely to attract more employers to hire candidates with disabilities or eligible veterans.
PVA Action:
We need Congress to pass the Improve and Enhance the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Act (H.R. 1177/S. 492), which will:
- Increase the tax credit percentage from 40% to 50% of qualified wages
- Authorize a second level of credit for employees who work 400 hours or more
- Eliminate the age cap for eligible WOTC employees who are also eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
