The grant helps with the purchase of a new or used automobile to accommodate a veteran or service member with certain disabilities that resulted from a condition incurred or aggravated during active military service.
Unfortunately, the average useful life of a modified vehicle is about 11.5 years, and it costs tens of thousands of dollars to replace it.
These substantial costs, coupled with inflation, present a tremendous financial hardship for many veterans with disabilities who need to replace their primary mode of transportation once it reaches the end of its useful service life.
S. 444 and H.R. 1361, the “AUTO for Veterans Act,” would lessen eligible disabled veterans' financial burden when replacing their vehicle by allowing them to receive an Automobile Grant every ten years.
