Now is the time when the House and Senate are in final negotiations on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This bill determines so much about how military servicemembers and their families live and the health care they have.
The House has pushed forward language in their version of the bill that blocks servicemembers and their dependents from taking leave to travel for abortion care. But they have also included a bipartisan provision that would eliminate contraceptive copays for servicemembers and dependents who still face out-of-pocket costs—that their civilian counterparts don’t. The Senate version of the bill does not have either of these provisions. While the House and Senate meet to negotiate their respective versions into a final bill, we need to fight to make sure the anti-abortion language is left out and the contraception amendment is included—and ultimately signed into law!
Servicemembers and their families deserve the same access to reproductive health care as the people they protect. Please help us to honor their service by urging Congress to include no copay contraceptive coverage in the final NDAA, and to get out of the way of servicemembers and their families traveling for abortion care.
