After failing to pass a Continuing Resolution to keep the government funded, we have reached a government shutdown. This means that important programs and policies that support access to sexual and reproductive health care and health care overall are no longer funded for FY26. Further, as a result of the shutdown, many federal workers, including those who work on Title X and TPP, have been laid off from work. This means that the offices that ensure these programs continue functionally cease to exist. On the heels of Congress passing the "One Big Beautiful Bill" which will strip Medicaid from millions, it is pertinent that policymakers and the administration work to protect access to health care not undermine it. This means ensuring that programs like TPP and Title X both continue functionally, and in final FY26 funding. As negotiations to end the shutdown continue, policymakers must:
- Provide continued funding and support for the Title X Family Planning Program;
- Provide continued funding and support for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program;
- Eliminate funding for the harmful Sexual Risk Avoidance Program;
- Remove anti-abortion policy riders such as the Hyde and Weldon Amendments; and
- Including health extenders to reauthorize programs like the Personal Responsibility and Education Program (PREP).
- Extend ACA premium tax credits, so people can afford the health care they need.
Together, these policies and programs work to expand access to care for all. Contact your legislators and tell them to support and protect these and other programs that support reproductive well-being.
