Upstate Businesses Urge Lawmakers to Oppose the New York Health Act
New York State legislators are seriously considering legislation known as the New York Health Act. The bill would abolish the current health care system by creating a government-run Single Payer system.

The legislation would ban private health insurance, require a massive tax increase of over $250 billion and eliminate more than 160,000 jobs across the state. The upstate economy would lose more than 50,000 jobs. The Single Payer plan would be funded through an unlimited, progressively graduated payroll tax on employers and employees – 80% paid by employers, 20% paid by employees.

More than 95% of New Yorkers are currently insured through a combination of private, employer-sponsored and government-supported plans. The uninsured rate is even lower in our region. The New York Health Act is unnecessary and will do more harm than good, especially for the upstate business community.

We are asking you to contact your state Senate/Assemblymember today to let them know that you are concerned with the New York Health Act and urge them to oppose it.
