The last surgical abortion clinic in Dayton is open only because Wright State Physicians Group came to their rescue. The Ohio Department of Health requires any such abortion clinic to maintain a “transfer agreement” with one or more local hospitals to accept abortion patients in the case of a medical emergency. When no local Dayton hospital was willing to support such a transfer agreement, the Ohio Department of Health agreed to a “variance” which would allow the clinic to obtain admitting privileges through an agreement with at least 4 (an arbitrary number) local “backup” physicians instead. Four doctors at the Wright State Physicians Group (Dr. Sheela Barhan, Dr. Janice Duke, Dr. David Dhanraj, and Dr. Margaret Dunn) stepped up to allow the clinic to stay open. This exception by Governor Dewine’s Department of Health, and the support of the Wright State Physician’s Group, is enabling the killing of 35-60 babies every week at the Kettering abortion Center run by Dr. Martin Haskell.
