Critical legislation that will ensure state and local public employees have equal coverage for mental health and addiction treatment was passed by the House of Representatives in June 2022. Tremendous work from many advocates and organizations resulted in an overwhelming bipartisan House approval of the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act (H.R. 7666). Included in the legislation is the elimination of barriers for doctors to prescribe the lifesaving drug buprenorphine, a treatment for opioid addiction, removing the waiver needed for a prescription.
Ensuring that everyone has access to effective treatment for all of their needs, including behavioral health needs, is necessary for the well-being of every citizen and key to saving the lives of those suffering from addiction.
