Sudden cuts to key federal funding sources—like the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC)—have led to the cancellation of over 1.85 million pounds of food that were scheduled for delivery to the San Diego Food Bank between now and the end of July. These shipments included vital, high-demand items like fresh and frozen proteins and milk—foods that are essential to maintaining a balanced, healthy diet.
In addition, the Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) program, which provides fresh, locally grown produce from San Diego area farms to our neighbors in need, has also been cancelled going forward. LFPA not only nourishes families but also supports our local agriculture, strengthening our community from the ground up.
We cannot afford to lose these vital resources.
