The amendment by Rep Domangue requires that a written dissent to vaccination requirements for school attendance be accompanied by "written verification that the child has been examined by a physician."
In direct opposition to the Louisiana Children's Code, which states that, “The people of Louisiana recognize. . .that parents should make the decisions regarding where and with whom the child shall reside, the educational, moral, ethical, and religious training of the child, the medical, psychiatric, surgical, and preventive health care of the child,” Rep Domangue has indicated that parents are not capable of this fundamental decision-making for their children.
In her statement on the House floor, Rep Domangue insulted parents and parental rights by insinuating that NOT vaccinating could be a sign of medical neglect and is a matter of convenience rather than a matter of conscience.
This amendment does not reflect conservative values and is a direct attack on parental rights.
Please ask your state legislators to remove Domangue’s amendment from HB47 and ensure that parents, not the state of Louisiana, remain in control of their child’s medical decisions.
