“Two weeks to slow the spread” turned into years of mandates that affected nearly every part of American life. People were forced to choose between their jobs and a medical procedure. Students faced barriers to education. Families were divided. Personal medical decisions were replaced with government mandates.

Never again.

Medical choices should never be dictated by government agencies, employers, or institutions. No person should have to accept a medical intervention in order to work, attend school, or participate in society.

And yet, every day we continue to hear stories of government and employer mandates that limit Louisianans’ ability to access services, employment, and education based on medical requirements.

• College students in healthcare related fields are denied access to education because of hospital or clinical mandates.
• Healthcare employees are routinely forced to undergo medical interventions.
• Parents and children on public assistance are denied access to state services because of state-mandated medical interventions. 

The Louisiana Medical Freedom Act is the solution. This legislation ensures that no one and no government can mandate a medical intervention—protecting citizens from coercion and restoring a clear boundary between public policy and personal healthcare decisions.

The Louisiana Medical Freedom Act does NOT repeal all of R.S. 17:170, but compliance with the law ensures that no medical intervention is MANDATED.  It does repeal the section of R.S. 17:170 that sends healthy, unvaccinated students home in the event of an "outbreak," a term that has never been defined.  

Public health should protect the people it serves, not compel medical compliance.
