We have exciting news! Governor Newsom’s 2022-2023 proposed budget recognizes the work and impact Special Olympics has on Californians with and without intellectual disabilities in sports & fitness, in-person and online school-based programs, and health & wellness, including mental health, COVID prevention and access to vaccines.
The proposed budget includes Special Olympics in California for a total of $30 million available over the next three years! Knowing that this critical funding is secured for more than a year allows us to plan and transform not only our organizations, but also the lives of Californians with intellectual disabilities and their families. We hope this is the first step in moving toward permanent funding for Special Olympics California programs.
In April, athlete leaders spoke to State Senators and Assemblymembers to gather support for the Governor’s transformational funding. The support was unanimous.
Now they want to hear from you. We have one simple ask - sign on to the letter of support. Let the State, and your elected officials, know their investment is important.
