California Voters Support Special Olympics Programming
Since 2016, the State of California has supported Special Olympics California programs with funding from the State budget. This vital State of California funding enables Special Olympics California to deliver essential inclusive health, education, fitness, and sports programs to over 50,000 Californians with intellectual disabilities throughout all 58 California counties.
State Funding is at Risk
Over the past three years, Special Olympics has transformed countless lives across California, thanks to critical state funding included in the 2022-2023 State budget. This support has been a lifeline—allowing us to reach more athletes, expand Unified Champion Schools programs, and provide essential health and mental health services to an often-overlooked community. But this progress is fragile. Without continued funding, we risk undoing the strides we've made, leaving thousands without the support they rely on. This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about real people, real futures, and real impact. We must keep moving forward. The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) community is counting on us.
