Congress is currently considering a new Farm Bill that has advanced in the House Agriculture Committee: the first comprehensive update to federal agricultural policy in nearly a decade. The Farm Bill plays a critical role in shaping the long-term stability and competitiveness of the green industry.
Over the past several years, our industry has faced extraordinary challenges including historic freezes, hurricanes, prolonged drought, labor shortages, supply chain disruption, and rising input costs. During this time, Congress has relied on short-term extensions rather than passing a full Farm Bill.
This proposal represents a major step forward for specialty crop agriculture and the green industry supply chain.
The bill strengthens the tools our industry depends on to manage risk, recover from disasters, improve water efficiency, and invest in innovation.
Key provisions include:
- Stronger crop insurance tools designed specifically for specialty crops
- Improved disaster relief programs for tree and perennial producers
- A permanent emergency assistance framework for specialty crops
- Expanded conservation programs that support irrigation efficiency and water stewardship
- Major investments in research, automation, pest management, and workforce innovation
- Continued funding for specialty crop grants that support market development and industry partnerships
These programs help fund research, extension services, pest and disease response, water-use efficiency studies, and market development initiatives that directly benefit Texas green industry businesses.
For many in our industry, Farm Bill programs provide the foundation for innovation, resilience, and long-term economic growth.
Passing a full Farm Bill this year will provide the stability and policy certainty our industry needs to continue growing and investing in the future.
