URGENT: Act Now! Maintenance of Certification legislation is up for vote
One of TMA's legislative priorities this year is persuading the General Assembly to prohibit mandatory maintenance of certification (MOC). Legislation that addresses this issue, SB298 /HB413 carried by State Senator Richard Briggs and State Representative Ryan Williams, will be voted on this coming week. This bill proposes relief from the MOC burdens by prohibiting health insurance plan participation or state medical licensure to be based on MOC status. Hospitals for some reason adamantly oppose this legislation even though they have been amended out of the proposal to allow a task force to work towards an alternative over the summer. Portions of the insurance industry are also actively opposing this legislation. We need physicians to express their passionate support for this monumental piece of legislation in order to ensure that the insurance industry is not exempted out through an amendment.
