TREA has long endorsed H.R. 5701, the Care for the Veteran Caregiver Act of 2020. We have urged the earliest consideration by the House Veterans Affairs Committee, including a legislative hearing, mark-up, and Committee vote. In February, we joined Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) and Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY) who co-sponsored the bill, at a press conference alongside other VSOs, caregivers, and veterans.

Specifically, the bill:
- Extends the stipend payments to and CHAMPVA eligibility for
caregivers to at least 180 days after the death of an eligible veteran.
- Eliminates unnecessary and redundant re-evaluation requirements for veterans who require the most significant levels of care.
- Standardizes nationally the initial and annual eligibility evaluation process.
