Who we are:
The Way Home Campaign brings together nearly 7,000 people and 110 organizations committed to ending chronic homelessness in Washington, DC. Our membership is comprised of compassionate neighbors, ardent advocates, individuals with lived experience of homelessness, and experts from the fields of homeless services, health care, and beyond.
Our Leadership:
The Way Home Campaign is convened by Miriam’s Kitchen and is governed by a Steering Committee comprising 8 organizational representatives and 2 individual members with lived experience of homelessness. Miriam’s Kitchen, Friendship Place, Pathways to Housing, The Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, Everyone Home DC, National Community Church, Community Connections, and The People for Fairness Coalition.
What we do:
The Way Home Campaign builds power through mobilization and education, uplifts the voices of people with lived experience of homelessness, and urges elected
officials to invest in budgets and policies that prevent and address homelessness in both the short-and-long term.
What we believe:
We believe that ending chronic homelessness is possible and are passionate about helping DC become a city where no one is denied the dignity of a home. We are driven by the reality that homelessness is caused by the failures of our systems, not individual choices. We believe ending homelessness requires addressing the urgent needs of our most vulnerable neighbors immediately, while simultaneously addressing its root causes, including racism, lack of affordable housing, poverty, and more. We believe that ending long-term homelessness is an important first step in ending all forms of homelessness and housing injustice.
Join us! Solving homelessness takes everybody. We hope you will join us in our fight to ensure all our neighbors have the housing they need to thrive.
What we’ve won:
Since our foundation in 2014, The Way Home has successfully secured funding to end chronic homelessness for over 6,000 individuals and hundreds and families. Along with our partners, we have secured funding for homeless street outreach, DC’s Downtown Daytime Services Center, and shelter repairs and renovations. We’re proud to have supported advocacy to significantly grow the Housing Product Trust Fund and other methods to produce and fund low-income housing. We look forward to future victories and realizing the day when everybody has access to safe and dignified housing.
