The Senate Commerce Committee has unanimously advanced the bipartisan, bicameral Household Goods Shipping Consumer Protection Act (H.R. 880 / S. 337) – a critical step toward enhancing the federal government’s ability to prevent cargo and strategic theft across the supply chain. The legislation supports all brokers and carriers (not just household goods) by enabling or requiring the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to do the following:
- Assess civil penalties for unauthorized brokerage activities.
- Enforce regulations requiring companies to maintain a physical business address.
- Examine commonalities among companies registering for operating authority.
Providing the FMCSA and law enforcement with these tools is crucial, as the impact on our national security, supply chain, jobs and consumer costs grows while cargo and strategic theft go unchecked.
Tell your members of Congress to support H.R. 880 and S. 337 to strengthen the federal government’s ability to combat cargo and strategic theft!
