The January fires in Los Angeles devastated communities, forcing at least 150,000 people to flee and leaving 40,000 acres in ruins. Lives, homes, and livelihoods were lost.  

While the news cycle has moved on, thousands of people still live with the consequences of the fire — emotionally, physically, and financially.  

Climate change drove these fires. It's time for fossil fuel polluters — not Californians — to be held responsible for climate damages.  

California taxpayers unfairly shoulder the cost of climate disasters, which makes the state less and less affordable. But California legislators are trying to turn that around with the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act — a fund that would help the state rebuild communities, strengthen resilience against future disasters, and phase out fossil fuels.  

The legislation will also force the biggest polluters to pay to remedy the climate damages they've inflicted — something most polluters have never done, despite making exorbitant profits.  

As members of Jewish communities across California, we’re mobilizing to ensure that legislators in the California Senate and Assembly support this groundbreaking bill.  

Urge your legislators and Gov. Newsom to hold corporate polluters accountable and vote “yes” on the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act.
