Since 2012, Congress has allocated funds to the CDC Hospitals Promoting Breastfeeding program. These funds support a wide range of efforts, from improving maternity care practices to helping businesses support their breastfeeding employees.
An increase in this funding is needed to help our nation build an infrastructure that protects infant nutrition security. Breastfeeding support is a crucial component of maternal and child health care. With this in mind, the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee works to mobilize funding to ensure the long-term sustainability of the lactation field.
Each fiscal year, the federal budget process begins when the White House transmits budget priorities to Congress in its Executive Budget Request. The fiscal year 2026 Executive Budget Request has yet to be released, which means that right now is the time to ask that the Hospitals Promoting Breastfeeding program receive full funding for fiscal year 2026.
Join us in calling on the White House to support an increase in the federal budget for the Hospitals Promoting Breastfeeding program!
