Strengthen Lactation Infrastructure in VA Medical Centers
Lactation support is a basic component of public health infrastructure. When families, employees, and caregivers enter federal facilities, they should have access to safe, clean, dedicated spaces to feed their babies or express milk. The Lactation Spaces for Veteran Moms Act (S.778/ H.R.1646) advances this principle by requiring Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers to provide lactation spaces that are available to women veterans as well as members of the public.

This inclusive provision is significant. VA medical centers serve multigenerational families, caregivers, and a diverse workforce. By ensuring access to lactation spaces for all who enter the facility, the bill strengthens the care environment for young families supporting veterans, adult children assisting aging parents, and the civilian employees who keep the VA system running. It recognizes lactation support as essential infrastructure—not a special accommodation—and it reinforces the expectation that federal institutions must meet foundational standards for the populations they serve.

The bill has already passed out of the Senate and moved to the House where it is awaiting further action. Your voice can help move this bill forward in the House.

Urge your Representative to support swift passage of the Lactation Spaces for Veteran Moms Act.
