Answer Pope Leo XIV’s Call: Urge Congress to Press for Peace in the Middle East

The conflict between the United States and Iran has entered its second month. Even though both sides have agreed to a temporary ceasefire, the threat of increased military action and humanitarian disaster remains. Our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, continues to call all people to work for a “peaceful coexistence founded on justice.” Take up Pope Leo’s call for peace by contacting your elected leaders in Congress; ask them to urge the Trump Administration to remain committed to dialogue and peace.

The situation across the Middle East region is dire. Innocent people and families in Iran are threatened by this conflict. Further, the human toll continues to climb in Lebanon, where over one million people, including 370,000 children, are displaced amid the regional violence.

During Holy Week, USCCB President Archbishop Paul S. Coakley echoed Pope Leo XIV’s renewed appeal for peace. Catholic leaders continue to call for mutually respectful and effective dialogue leading to a ceasefire and a negotiated end to the conflict and warning that prolonged war increases the risk of dramatic escalation and broader regional conflict.

As Catholics, we are called to be active peacemakers, advocating for peace through prayer and dialogue in a world torn by conflict. This vocation involves demanding an end to war, fostering reconciliation in communities, and building a "disarmed and disarming" peace rooted in human dignity and solidarity.

Urge your Representative and Senators to publicly support de-escalation and diplomacy that avoids further destruction and bloodshed, oppose actions that expand the war, and prioritize protection of civilians and humanitarian relief.
