Comment on Rule to Aid Air Travelers Who Use Wheelchairs
The US Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a new proposed rule that would ease the challenges now faced by people with mobility impairments when they travel by air.  The proposed rule would require airlines to promptly repair or replace damaged wheelchairs, provide loaner wheelchairs while passengers are waiting for the repair or replacement and provide enhanced training to workers who assist passengers with mobility disabilities to improve the safety and dignity of the assistance.  The proposed rule also seeks comment on whether to require larger lavatories on larger planes and reimbursement of airfare differences when certain flights cannot accommodate a wheelchair.  We urge all those who use wheelchairs to comment and others to support wheelchair users by expressing support for these positive changes in a comment.
